The present continuous tense is formed from the present tense of the verb be and the present participle (-ing form) of a verb.
We use the present continuous to talk about:
- things that are happening at the moment of speaking:
- The children are crying.
- I am walking to school.
- things that happen before and after a given time:
- At seven o’clock we are usually having dinner.
- things that are temporary:
- She will be living in New York for six months.
- things that happen again and again:
- They are always yelling.
- She is always smiling.
- things that have been arranged or planned:
- I am moving to a new house next week.
- Liza is going to a new school next year.
